How to keep a mindset for growth? Insights from LegalTech 2025

Insights written by Francisco Trincado-Munoz.

Leeds is a city that is quickly becoming a UK’s LegalTech and innovation hub, with a thriving economic ecosystem and broad legal services landscape. LegalTech in Leeds Conference 2025 convened leaders from across the legal, academic, tech and public sectors, all committed to change the legal profession so this can keep growing. More than 250 attendees enjoyed a day full of presentations, speakers and a LegalTech showcase.

Throughout the conference, many presenters highlighted the importance of collaboration as a driving force for growth in legal services. Legal professionals need to become more agile, adaptable, and confident to work across disciplines. In this respect, Dr Francisco Trincado-Munoz, Co-Investigator of TiPS and Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, shared some of the insights gained in the Strategic Acceleration Path for Technology Adoption.

Francisco’s talk highlighted, among others:

The importance to keep a mindset for growth, reconsidering the services to integrate technology (business model innovation), adapting existing offering, or creating new businesses opportunities.

Engagement is key aspect on the process of change (people’s interest diminishes with time – so we need to keep them engaged). Create innovation teams, identify champions, consider educators (trainers of trainers), and explore roles “outside the box” (e.g., Legal Technologist)

In the adoption journey, change is a challenge. Consider the existing systems and people’s resistance (move beyond billing). Key aspects to consider are the reputation and fear to liability, and the interest to take a client-centered approach when it comes to technology.

Finally, consider what is success for your project (and measure it). Success for you might not necessarily means adopting the technology but ensuring employees are on board and engaged with the technological change.
